Synthesis and evaluation of amino acid modified polyepoxysuccinic acid as inhibitor of calcium carbonate scale

Abstract Amino acid (AA) was used as a green grafting agent to functionalize polyepoxysuccinic (PESA), and three AA-modified PESA (AA-PESA) CaCO3 scale inhibitors were obtained change the structural singleness of further improve its comprehensive properties. The structures AA-PESA characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen (1HNMR) spectroscopy. molecular weights analyzed gel permeation chromatography (GPC). synthesis technology optimized single-factor orthogonal experiments. inhibition performance studied static scale-inhibition method, mechanism analyzed. Results showed that AA-PESAs had same process: n(PESA):n(AA) = 1:0.625, reaction temperature 95 °C, time 2 h. In water system with pH 7.0–8.5, concentration 8–10 mg/L, action period 10–14 h, ambient <80 ρ(Ca2+) < 250 rate on could reach 100%, GIN preferred for graft modification PESA. FTIR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results addition control nucleation sites crystals, important influence growth calcite (104) crystal planes, good inhibitory effect scale.
